Welcome to the Italy Logue

I’m Jessica, and I’m excited to welcome you to the Italy Logue! Allow me to introduce myself…

I’ve always had a tendency to fall head-over-heels in love with whatever I’ve chosen to immerse myself in at any given moment, and travel is no exception. I have been, at various times in my life, an Anglophile, a Francophile and a New Zealand-o-phile (is that even a word?). And once I started getting into Italy – and studying Italian – I haven’t looked back.

I began studying Italian in 2001, just before my first trip to Italy, and have kept myself involved in Italian classes since then. I even began teaching introductory Italian last year. I’ve visited Italy three times now, and each time I fall more in love with the country. Thankfully, my husband (who’s also been studying the language) feels the same way, and we’ve had “moving to Italy” on our dream to-do list for a few years.

Well, we’re taking it off the dream list this year, and we’re going to try to make it happen. My husband’s job is ending this summer, so he’s going to see what he can do about finding gainful employment in Italia. And since my work can be done from anywhere I’ve got an Internet connection, I’m focusing on the whole process of moving to a foreign country and setting up house. We’ve got friends who made the jump years ago, and who have kindly answered all our inane questions… Now let’s see if we can put them to good use.

So, in addition to the tidbits I’ll post here about Italian culture and news, I’ll also be chronicling our adventure in seeing whether this whole expat-in-Italy thing is going to pan out!

As someone who adores Italy – the culture, the food, the people, the style, the language – I hope I’ll make this logue an entertaining and informative read for Italophiles everywhere. If there’s something you think I’m missing, or you’d like me to talk about, please let me know.
