Cheap Hostels in Bologna
Bologna may be the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region and home to Europe’s oldest university, but it tends to be just far enough of the tourist radar that the youthful energy you’re likely to see in the piazza isn’t that of travelers but of students. It is, however, popular with foodies – the entire region is world-famous for giving birth to such Italian favorites as prosciutto ham, parmigiano-reggiano cheese, balsamic vinegar, and even egg pasta.
A visit to Bologna is likely to be cheaper than a visit to Florence, but it’s a relatively well-to-do city so it still makes sense to seek out budget accommodation if you’re trying to save money. I’d recommend staying in the historic center if possible, since that’s where all the sights – not to mention the nightlife spots – are.
